Management accounts

Management accounts for healthcare practices

A monthly pack for each site, and across the business if you run several, so you know how the practice is performing long before the year-end accounts arrive.

Know where the practice stands every month.

Annual accounts tell you how a year went, months after it ended. Management accounts tell you how last month went, while there is still time to do something about it. We prepare them from the same books we keep for you, so the figures are reconciled before they reach you.

For healthcare, that means income split the way it actually arrives: NHS contract income, private fees and plan income, retail and dispensing, kept apart so you can see which parts of the practice earn and which do not. Read more in our guide to management accounts for healthcare practices.

“Most practices only find out how a year went when the accounts arrive months later. A monthly pack means you can act while the numbers can still be changed.”

Profit by site

If you run more than one surgery, pharmacy or practice, each one gets its own figures, then the business as a whole, so a strong site cannot hide a weak one.

The figures that matter

Alongside profit and loss, the pack covers cash, wage costs against income and the measures your sector watches. See our guide to financial KPIs for healthcare practices.

Time to act

Monthly figures turn year-end surprises into decisions you can still make: a rota change, a price review, a conversation about a contract.

What’s in the monthly pack.

Prepared from reconciled books and delivered every month.

Nista Katuwal

“I put the monthly pack together from books that are already reconciled, so the figures you read at the start of each month are ones you can rely on.”

  • Profit and loss for each site
  • The position across the whole business
  • Income split by NHS, private and other streams
  • Wage costs measured against income
  • Cash position and movement
  • Balance sheet
  • Comparison with the previous month and year
  • Commentary on what changed and why

Two ways to get management accounts.

One site or many, with or without your current accountant.

Stop waiting for the year end to find out.

Most practices only see their real numbers once a year, when it is too late to change them. A monthly pack puts the same figures in front of you twelve times a year, prepared by the people who already keep your books. Pharmacy owners can also read our guide to pharmacy management accounts and KPIs.

FAQs: management accounts.

If yours is not here, half an hour on the phone will cover it.

What are management accounts?

Management accounts are regular financial reports, usually monthly, that show how your practice is performing. Unlike statutory year-end accounts, they are for you rather than HMRC or Companies House, and they are designed to help you run the business.

How are they different from year-end accounts?

Year-end accounts are a legal requirement and look back over a whole year. Management accounts are prepared during the year, so you can see trends and act on them while they still matter.

Can you show figures for each site separately?

Yes. If you run more than one site, each one gets its own figures, alongside a view of the business as a whole.

Do I need to use you for bookkeeping as well?

Management accounts are prepared from your books, so they work best when we keep those books too. That way the figures are reconciled before you see them. Talk to us if your bookkeeping is done elsewhere.

Which software do you work with?

We work with Xero, QuickBooks and Sage.

See your practice clearly, every month.

Thirty minutes. We look at what you can see today and what you are missing, then come back with a pack and a fee.

Priced on sites, volume and headcount.A fee is built from how many sites you run, how much comes through them and how many people are on the payroll. You get the number before you commit to anything.

Or send us the basics

Thank you. We will come back to you, usually the same working day.
